To ensure our environmental education programming reaches all corners of the vast bioregion in which we work (which includes more than 400 schools),
GPOCP has implemented a hands-on teach the teachers program, which builds professional capacity directly within schools.
This allows teachers to integrate environmental education into their curriculum every day and across a wide variety of educational activities.
Teachers face special challenges in educating their students in rural areas:
large classes, limited access to technology, and uncertainty about the availability of even the most basic of supplies, such as electicity.
Through its training workshops, GPOCP staff helps teachers discover a world of science and wonder right at their doorstop.
An exceptional rainforest with incredible biodiversity offers endless educational opportunities and provides a unique outdoor classroom surrounded by myriad 'teachable moments'.
GPOCP's staff guides teachers into the National Park for a day of hands-on instruction using the forest habitat as their medium.
They explore how, with basic supplies, they can teach students about biodiversity and the relationship between the natural habitat and local populations.
Teachers learn that plants, animals, soil, and water are simple tools for helping students understand the region's complex ecosystem and their personal role in protecting it.
Emerging from their hands-on forest experience, teachers complete their training with a renewed commitment to integrate environmental education into their daily lessons.
